Why Cambodia?

Cambodia, the "Kingdom of Wonders," offers a really unique experience with world-class service. That reputation is well-deserved; from the world-renowned (and 8th Wonder of the World), Angkor Wat, to the bustling towns of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, your visitors will be captivated by the land of contrasts, its relaxed pace of life, and always-smiling residents.

Battambang, a bustling metropolis in the country’s west, is not only a picturesque riverfront city in its own right, but also a convenient center for visiting the hinterland, which includes temples, Khmer ruins, and the bamboo train. It is easily accessible by bus or shared cab, but you may also arrive by boat from Siem Reap, crossing the Tonle Sap in what can be a wonderfully beautiful and unforgettable journey.

While Thailand is more known for its island scene, the half-dozen or so islands off Cambodia’s south coast are the region’s “new” islands. Pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters definitely deliver. Meanwhile, the seaside and riverbank towns of Sihanoukville, Kampot, and Kep offer a peaceful small-town atmosphere that may appeal to visitors seeking a more laid-back Cambodia.

Heading north from the capital to the border with Laos, the riverside towns of Kratie and Stung Treng both offer small-town charm and the chance to observe critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins.

Further east take you to the romantically called Mondulkiri and Rattanakiri provinces. Once considered Cambodia’s “Wild East,” these areas have been (and continue to be) ravaged environmentally, but there are some highlights; Banlung in the north can be used as a base for trekking in Virachey National Park and visiting nearby waterfalls, and Sen Monorom, like Chipat, has a developing sustainable tourism scene.
